Copyright & IP claims

Last updated: 2026-05-17

CoalHost rents game-server capacity to individual customers. We do not author or redistribute the mods, modpacks, plugins or game files that customers choose to install on their own private servers. We do, however, take intellectual-property complaints seriously and will act on valid notices about content hosted on our infrastructure.

1. How to file a notice

Email [email protected] with the subject line "IP claim — <your work>". Include:

  • A physical or electronic signature of the rights holder or an authorised agent.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work or trademark you claim has been infringed.
  • The specific URL or server identifier on CoalHost where the infringing material is located (e.g. https://<subdomain>.coalhosting.com).
  • Your contact information (name, address, email, phone).
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the rights holder or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on behalf of one.

2. Our response

  • Acknowledgement within 24 hours (business days, EU/Helsinki time).
  • Initial assessment within 3 business days. If the notice is facially valid we will contact the customer hosting the content and ask them to remove or replace it.
  • If the customer does not comply within 7 days we will remove or disable access to the material ourselves and may suspend the server.
  • For clearly blatant violations (e.g. distributing a paid game as a free download) we may act immediately without waiting for the customer.

3. Counter-notice

If you believe content was removed in error, email the same address with a counter-notice that includes:

  • Your signature, name, address, and email.
  • Identification of the material that was removed and where it was located.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed due to mistake or misidentification.
  • Your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of Finland (or your local jurisdiction if you are outside the EU/EEA).

We will forward valid counter-notices to the original complainant. If they do not file legal action within 10 business days we will restore the material.

4. Repeat infringers

Customers who receive multiple confirmed IP-infringement notices may have their account suspended or terminated under the Acceptable Use clause of our Terms of Service.

5. Modpack-specific notes

Many Minecraft modpacks are All-Rights-Reserved or carry custom non-derivative licenses. CoalHost respects this in two ways:

  • We only fetch modpack files from the official author-controlled APIs (Modrinth, CurseForge, Feed-the-Beast, ATLauncher) on the customer's explicit request. We do not mirror or redistribute pack archives.
  • Packs whose authors have publicly objected to modification (RLCraft, DawnCraft, Vault Hunters, All The Mods, Better Minecraft, SkyFactory, FTB-team packs, …) are marked "Install-only" in our panel and cannot be edited through any CoalHost-provided tooling.
  • Modpacks containing the Pixelmon mod are blocked entirely under the Pixelmon EULA, which forbids monetised hosting.
  • If you are the author of a modpack and want it removed from our install catalogue, email [email protected] with proof of authorship and we will add it to our blocklist within 3 business days.

6. Trademarks

Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Synergies AB (a Microsoft subsidiary). CoalHost is an independent hosting provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mojang or Microsoft. All other game and mod trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
