How to Host an FTB Horizons III Server

FTB Horizons III is FTB's adventure and exploration pack for Forge 1.12.2 — built around biome diversity, dimension-hopping, and dungeon discovery with Biomes O' Plenty and Chocolate Quest rather than factory automation. That makes it the FTB pick for players who want to explore new biomes and raid dungeons instead of running assembly lines, with far more exploration content than the tech-heavy FTB Revelation. Here's how to get a server running cleanly from the first boot.

1

Start with 6 GB of RAM allocated to the server. That's the floor FTB Horizons III needs for Forge 1.12.2 plus Biomes O' Plenty's expanded world generation and Chocolate Quest's dungeon spawns — go lower and you'll see chunk generation stalls and TPS drops as new biomes load in.

2

Import FTB Horizons III through a proper modpack installer rather than copying files from a client instance — manually zipping a client export tends to drag along client-only rendering and biome-visual mods that have no business running on a server and will crash the boot.

3

Watch the console through first boot until world generation and all mod registries finish loading cleanly — with Biomes O' Plenty's additional biomes and Chocolate Quest's dungeon structures layered into world gen, a rushed first boot is where missing-mod and biome-ID conflicts show up first.

4

Only invite players once that first boot completes without errors and the server reaches a stable TPS. Letting people start exploring biomes and triggering dungeon spawns during an unstable boot is how you end up with corrupted chunks before the world has even finished generating.

5

Take a backup before importing a world, updating Biomes O' Plenty or Chocolate Quest, or touching dimension configs. Horizons III players put real time into exploring new biomes and clearing dungeons for loot — losing that progress to a bad update is the fastest way to lose your server's playerbase.

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes FTB Horizons III much less annoying to launch correctly.
