How to Fix a Monifactory Server That Keeps Crashing

Monifactory crashes are usually one of a handful of known causes — too little RAM for GregTech-expert multiblock processing, a Forge version mismatch, or a multiblock structure desyncing across a chunk boundary. See the Monifactory pack page page for boot-tested RAM numbers.

1

Too little RAM for GregTech multiblock processing

Monifactory's GregTech-expert systems run continuous multiblock recipe processing across many machines; the pack's own recommended floor is 8 GB. Fix: run at least 8 GB, more as your processing chains scale up.

2

Forge version mismatch

Monifactory is pinned to Forge 1.20.1 at a specific build; a different Forge patch version can break GregTech's lower-level block and tile-entity hooks. Fix: match the exact Forge version the modpack specifies.

3

Multiblock structure desync after a chunk unload

A large multiblock spanning a chunk boundary can desync if that chunk unloads mid-processing, sometimes crashing on reload. Fix: keep multiblocks away from chunk boundaries where practical, or use chunk-loading items if the modpack supports them.

4

Out-of-memory during a large automation tick

Many simultaneous GregTech machine ticks — a fully built processing line — can spike memory usage well above idle. Fix: add RAM headroom once automation scales past a handful of active multiblocks.

5

Corrupted world save from an ungraceful shutdown

A hard kill during a GregTech-heavy save write corrupts the world, the same root cause as most modpacks. Fix: always graceful-stop; restore from backup if it happens.

6

Conflicting addon mod version

Monifactory bundles several GregTech addon mods together; updating just one manually, rather than the whole pack, is a common source of dependency-mismatch crashes. Fix: update the entire pack as a set, never a single sub-mod.

FAQ

What's the minimum RAM for Monifactory?+
8 GB is the pack's own recommended floor — its GT-expert multiblock processing is heavier than most tech packs.
Can a multiblock crash the server?+
Yes, if it desyncs across a chunk boundary during an unload. Keeping large multiblocks away from chunk edges reduces this risk.
Is it safe to update one Monifactory sub-mod on its own?+
No — update the whole pack together. The GregTech addon mods bundled in Monifactory are tightly version-matched to each other.
