How to Host an FTB Sky Odyssey Server
FTB Sky Odyssey drops you into a sky full of floating biome islands instead of a single void platform, and it's a different hosting job from the skyblock packs it gets lumped in with — it's built on Forge 1.12.2 and runs on biome exploration as the core resource loop, not the automation chains of SkyFactory or the age-gated progression of SevTech: Ages of the Sky. Here's how to get a server running cleanly before you invite anyone in.
Start with at least 6 GB of RAM allocated to the server. Sky Odyssey is a Forge 1.12.2 pack built around floating biome islands rather than a single void platform, so the server is generating and holding many more distinct biome chunks in memory than a typical skyblock pack — 6 GB is the realistic floor, not a comfortable margin.
Import the modpack through a proper modpack installer instead of copying mods out of a client export. Manually assembling the mods, configs, and Forge version from a client instance is the most common way Sky Odyssey servers end up missing a dependency or running a mismatched Forge build.
Watch the console through the first full boot before touching anything else. Because the world is made up of multiple floating biome islands that each need to generate correctly, give the server time to finish loading all mods and generate the starting islands, and confirm there are no missing-dependency or Forge version errors before you consider it ready.
Only invite players once that first boot has completed cleanly with no world-generation errors in the log. Bringing people in before you've confirmed the islands generated correctly risks corrupting spawn chunks that are much harder to fix once players have already started bridging and exploring from them.
Take a backup before importing an existing world, updating Forge or any mod, or changing configs. Sky Odyssey's progression is tied to which biome islands you've already discovered, bridged to, and stripped of resources — losing that world means losing every island your players have already explored, not just a few inventories.

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes FTB Sky Odyssey much less annoying to launch correctly.
