How to Host an After The Fallout Server

After The Fallout drops players into a nuclear wasteland on Forge 1.20.1, with mutant creatures, radiation zones, and scarce resources standing between them and survival. The pack has pulled in 33K downloads on the strength of its Fallout-inspired tone — decaying infrastructure and a world where humanity barely clings on. Hosting it well is mostly about getting the RAM floor and the first boot right before anyone logs in.

1

Start with 5 GB of RAM allocated to the server. That's the recommended floor for After The Fallout's own modpack listing, and it covers the mutant mobs, radiation-zone chunk data, and custom structures the pack streams in as players push further into the wasteland.

2

Import the modpack directly from its source instead of zipping up a client install and hoping for the best — a clean server-side import avoids dragging in client-only rendering mods that have no business running on a dedicated server, and it guarantees you're on the exact Forge build the pack expects.

3

Watch the console through the first boot. After The Fallout generates irradiated biomes and scripted wasteland structures on first world load, so give it time to finish those world-gen hooks and loader initialization before assuming it's hung — a clean boot should settle into an idle tick loop with no repeating mod errors.

4

Only open the server to players after that first boot has completed cleanly. Letting people wander into radiation zones or mutant-infested ruins while the world is still generating chunks underneath them is how you get rubber-banding, broken loot spawns, and reports of players falling through terrain.

5

Take a backup before importing an existing world, updating the Forge loader, or touching pack configs. A wasteland save can represent dozens of hours of scavenging, base-building, and mutant-clearing progress — losing that to a bad config edit or a failed update is the kind of mistake you only make once.

Use a cleaner After The Fallout path

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes After The Fallout much less annoying to launch correctly.
