How to Host a World of Dragons Server (Forge 1.12.2)

World of Dragons is a Forge 1.12.2 pack that fuses Ice and Fire dragons, Thaumcraft magic, Create Legacy tech automation, and MineColonies city-building into one world, tied together by a full HQM quest guide. It's the only catalog pack that combines all four systems at once, which makes it a great pick for groups who want maximum variety — but it also means the server needs enough RAM and a clean import to keep every system running smoothly from the first boot.

1

Start with at least 7 GB of RAM. That's the floor World of Dragons needs to run Ice and Fire's dragon AI, Thaumcraft's aura calculations, Create Legacy's automation, and MineColonies' villager pathfinding all at once without the server choking on tick lag.

2

Import the modpack directly from its official file instead of guessing at mod versions from a friend's client export — a clean import keeps Forge, Ice and Fire, Thaumcraft, Create Legacy, and MineColonies locked to the versions the pack author tested together.

3

Watch the console on first boot until it finishes loading. With four major systems running — dragon spawning, aura nodes, kinetic automation, and colony generation — the first startup takes longer than a vanilla Forge server, so let it finish cleanly before assuming something's wrong.

4

Only invite players once that first boot completes without errors. Letting people log in mid-crash or mid-world-gen is the fastest way to corrupt a colony or lose a tamed dragon egg.

5

Take a backup before importing an existing world, updating any of the four loaders, or changing configs. With HQM quest progress, tamed dragons, built colonies, and Create Legacy contraptions all stacked in one world, losing a backup here means losing hours of combined progress across every system, not just one.

Use a cleaner World of Dragons path

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes World of Dragons much less annoying to launch correctly.
