How to Host a TerraFirmaGreg-Modern Server
TerraFirmaGreg-Modern merges TerraFirmaCraft's realistic geology, metallurgy, and agriculture with GregTech's demanding multiblock tech progression on Forge 1.20.1. It's one of the most difficult modpacks in the catalog, with no close sibling pack to confuse it with — this is not a beginner-friendly pack, and players who haven't already worked through both TFC and GregTech separately will struggle immediately. Getting the server set up correctly matters more here than in most packs, since a bad first boot can wreck hours of geology-dependent progression before anyone notices.
Start with at least 8 GB of RAM — that's TerraFirmaGreg-Modern's own recommended floor, not a generic Forge guess. The TFC world generation and GregTech's machine and recipe registration both load a huge amount of data on boot, and anything below that floor tends to stall or crash before the world even finishes generating.
Import the modpack through a proper server pack rather than trying to recreate it from a client export. TFC and GregTech both ship exact config and recipe files that need to match the client version precisely — a hand-copied mod list is the fastest way to get recipe desyncs or missing ore registration.
Watch the server log through the full first boot, not just until it says "Done." Confirm TFC's geology layers finish generating and GregTech's machine and multiblock recipes finish registering with no errors before you consider the server ready — both systems log loudly if something is missing or mismatched.
Only invite players once that first clean boot is confirmed. Because TFC bakes its rock and ore layers into the world at generation time, any crash or mod mismatch during that first boot can permanently damage the terrain players will be mining for the rest of the playthrough.
Take a backup before importing an existing world, updating either mod, or touching GregTech's config — a corrupted TFC rock layer or a broken GregTech tech tree can erase days of metallurgy and multiblock progression that can't be regenerated.
