How to Host a Legendary Edition Server (Forge 1.20.1 Setup Guide)

Legendary Edition is a hardcore adventure modpack built on Forge 1.20.1, combining overhauled combat, demanding survival mechanics, and a large world full of dangerous dungeons and bosses. It sits between DawnCraft's heavy RPG and Souls-like systems and RLCraft's extreme survival friction — Legendary Edition targets the intersection of hardcore survival and adventure-focused dungeon content, a real challenge without RLCraft's harshest edges. This guide covers getting a server running correctly before you invite anyone in.

1

Start with 8 GB of dedicated RAM before you ever add a player. That's Legendary Edition's own recommended floor on Forge 1.20.1, and the pack's dangerous dungeons and overhauled combat lean on chunk loading and mob-dense areas hard enough that going lower shows up as stutter and rubber-banding fast.

2

Import the official Legendary Edition modpack directly from its listing instead of zipping up a friend's client folder and hoping it matches. A clean import keeps the Forge 1.20.1 mod list, configs, and combat balance exactly as the pack author shipped it, instead of silently dropping a mod or config override.

3

Watch the console through the entire first boot and don't touch anything until world generation and mod initialization both finish. Legendary Edition's large world and boss/dungeon content take noticeably longer to load than a vanilla server, and killing the process mid-load is one of the most common ways to corrupt a first start.

4

Only invite players after that first clean boot is done and you've confirmed you can join solo with no errors in the log. The combat and survival systems here are overhauled enough that a shaky first login is a bad first impression, and it's not one you can easily walk back once people are in.

5

Take a full backup before importing a world, updating the Forge loader, or editing configs. This is a hardcore adventure pack with large dungeon progress and demanding survival mechanics, so a bad update or a botched world import can erase hours of exploration and boss progress that nothing but a backup gets back.

Use a cleaner Legendary Edition path

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes Legendary Edition much less annoying to launch correctly.
