How to Host a Conan Exiles Server (2026 Setup Guide)

Conan Exiles runs a persistent Exiled Lands for your clan — bases, thralls and purge defenses that need to survive restarts, mod updates and the occasional server move. Here's how to get a Conan Exiles server running with the right RAM tier, mods, and admin access from day one.

1

Pick a RAM tier based on your population, not just your clan size. Small clans on the official map are fine on 8GB, a server with real concurrent population wants 12GB, and heavy mod packs like Age of Calamitous push toward 16GB — Conan reburns CPU and memory on every world tick, so size for how busy the server will actually get.

2

Set your admin password and RCON at signup. The admin password unlocks the in-game admin panel for spawning, teleporting and moderation; RCON on TCP 25575 lets CoalHost's panel console run commands remotely — both land on your server automatically, no manual config editing required.

3

Install Steam mods through the file manager before your clan logs in for the first time. Server-side mod lists load from the dedicated-server config, and connecting clients fetch what the server is running — so get the mod list right on day one rather than mid-playthrough.

4

Watch the first boot complete fully before opening to players. Conan's world generation and mod loading can take a few minutes longer than a vanilla boot, especially with a heavier mod list — a clean startup log is the signal to invite your clan in.

5

Rely on the automatic backup schedule, but know it's there. The whole Saved/ tree — world, databases, ServerSettings.ini — archives every 6 hours with one-click restore, which matters more on Conan than most survival games given how much clan progress (bases, thralls, purge defenses) lives in that single world state.
