How to Host a Better Realism MC Server (Fabric 1.21.1)

Better Realism MC is a Vanilla+ survival pack on Fabric 1.21.1, built on RealismCraft, that tightens hunger, adds temperature and seasons through Serene Seasons, and layers in better lighting and sky rendering. It's a good fit for players who find vanilla too forgiving but don't want a full kitchen-sink adventure pack — hosting it right mostly means getting the RAM floor and first boot right before anyone logs in.

1

Start with at least 5 GB of RAM — that's the floor Better Realism MC needs for its Fabric mod stack covering food and hunger, temperature and seasons, physics, and the lighting/sky overhaul to load and run without stuttering on first boot.

2

Import Better Realism MC from a clean modpack install rather than copying files out of a client instance — a proper server-side import pulls only the Fabric mods meant to run server-side and avoids dragging in client-only lighting and rendering mods that don't belong on a server.

3

Watch the console through the first boot until Serene Seasons finishes initializing its season and temperature data and the realism food/hunger systems load cleanly — that's the real signal the pack is ready, not just that the server process started.

4

Only invite players once that first boot has finished cleanly end to end — joining mid-load on a seasons and temperature pack can leave a player's client and the server disagreeing about world state.

5

Take a backup before any world import, Fabric loader update, or Serene Seasons config change — losing a world here means losing whatever progress players made adapting to the realistic hunger and seasonal cycles, and that's not something you can regenerate.

CoalHost is built around modpack hosting, which makes Better Realism MC much less annoying to launch correctly.
