Best Rust Server Hosting 2026
Rust is the most RAM-hungry survival game to host and the most unforgiving on wipe day. Under-provisioned RAM, slow storage or a US datacenter will cost you players before the first night ends. Here is what actually matters when choosing a host.
What to look for in a Rust host
RAM — Rust is hungry
Rust is one of the most RAM-intensive games to host. Map generation alone can spike past 6 GB. A 3000 map with active players needs 10–12 GB to run comfortably. Do not size at the minimum — you will crash under wipe-day load.
NVMe storage for wipe performance
Wipe day involves generating a brand new procedural map from scratch. On HDD-backed hosting this can take 10–15 minutes. NVMe SSD storage cuts map generation to under 2 minutes and keeps chunk loading fast during active play.
Europe availability
Rust is a PvP game where 100 ms of extra ping is the difference between winning and losing a fight. EU datacenters in Helsinki or Frankfurt give European players under 20 ms. US-only hosts are not competitive for EU communities.
uMod plugin support
Almost every community Rust server runs uMod. A host that lets you install uMod via the panel and manage plugin files through a file manager saves hours of SSH work every wipe.
Wipe scheduling
Rust players expect regular wipes on a clear schedule. Look for a host with cron-based restart and wipe commands, or RCON access to automate wipe day tasks.
RAM by server size
| Map size | RAM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1500–2500 (small) | 8 GB | Low-pop private server |
| 3000–4000 (standard) | 12 GB | Community server, 50–100 players |
| 5000+ (large) | 16 GB | High-pop, late wipe |
CoalHost for Rust
CoalHost runs Rust servers on AMD EPYC hardware in Helsinki with NVMe storage for fast wipes, uMod support and RCON access. Plans from €12/month.

How much RAM does a Rust server need?↓
8 GB is the minimum for a functional Rust server. 12 GB is comfortable for a community server on a 3000-size map. Large maps (5000+) or high player counts (100+) want 16 GB.
How often should I wipe my Rust server?↓
Facepunch forces a map wipe on the first Thursday of every month with the monthly client patch. Beyond that, most community servers wipe every 2–4 weeks. Blueprint wipes are optional and less frequent.
Can I run uMod plugins on a Rust server?↓
Yes. uMod (Oxide) is the standard plugin framework for Rust. Install it by extracting the uMod build over your server directory. Plugins go in the oxide/plugins folder.
What ports does a Rust server use?↓
UDP 28015 for game traffic, TCP/UDP 28016 for RCON. Both must be open. RCON lets you manage the server remotely via tools like RustAdmin.
Can I run a Rust server in Europe?↓
Yes. CoalHost runs Rust servers in Helsinki, Finland. EU hosting gives European players sub-20 ms ping versus 80–120 ms from US servers.
