Best 7 Days to Die Server Hosting 2026
7 Days to Die hit version 1.0 in 2024 and is no longer the alpha it was. The dedicated server is more stable but Blood Moon nights still demand real RAM and a low-latency connection. Here is what to look for.
What to look for in a 7DTD host
1.0 release support
7 Days to Die hit version 1.0 in 2024 after 10 years of early access. Confirm your host runs the 1.0 release branch, not a legacy Alpha version. The two are save-incompatible.
RAM for Blood Moon nights
7DTD is manageable on 6 GB most of the time, but Blood Moon events spawn hundreds of entities simultaneously and spike RAM. A host that allows burst or always has headroom keeps horde night from becoming a crash night.
Europe availability
Zombie hordes are latency-sensitive — a US server adds 100 ms that makes base defence and melee combat feel unresponsive. Helsinki or Frankfurt gives European players sub-20 ms.
Large map support
7DTD worlds can be 8k–16k tiles. Larger maps require more storage and more RAM for terrain generation. Make sure your host does not impose storage limits that prevent using larger random gen seeds.
Mod overhaul support
Darkness Falls, Rebirth and other overhaul mods triple the content. They need a clean Mods folder and file manager access to install. Hosts that let you manage files via browser or SFTP make modded play much smoother.
RAM by map size
| Map | RAM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Navezgane / 6k random gen | 6 GB | 2–6 players, lightest option |
| 8k random gen | 8 GB | Standard community server |
| 10k–16k random gen | 10–12 GB | Large world, mod overhauls |
CoalHost for 7 Days to Die
CoalHost runs 7 Days to Die 1.0 on AMD EPYC hardware in Helsinki. File manager for mod installs, daily backups and auto-restart on Blood Moon crashes. Plans from €14/month.

How much RAM does a 7 Days to Die server need?↓
6 GB covers a small group (2–6 players) on a standard map. A Navezgane or large random gen map with 8+ players benefits from 8–10 GB. Blood Moon events temporarily spike CPU and RAM usage.
How many players can join a 7 Days to Die server?↓
The default cap is 8 players but can be raised in serverconfig.xml. Most groups run 4–10 for a good horde night experience. Performance degrades at high counts during Blood Moon.
Does 7 Days to Die 1.0 require a new server?↓
The 1.0 release (2024) is not save-compatible with Alpha builds. You need a fresh server install and new world. Most hosts support 1.0 now — confirm before subscribing.
Can I run mods on a 7 Days to Die server?↓
Yes. Drop mod folders into the Mods directory. Popular overhauls like Darkness Falls and Rebirth work on dedicated servers. Clients must have matching mods installed.
What map size should I use for my server?↓
8k maps are the standard for small groups. Larger maps (10k–16k) give more exploration room but require more RAM and slower world generation. Navezgane is the handcrafted map and the lightest option.
